It certainly is frustrating to see such disregard for other road users. I've come across one or two ladies doing their makeup at lights too, but never a shaver!! Life has become so frantic that people don't have time to do these things at home! Haven't seen a newspaper reader either, that's a new one on me! Beggars belief!

Hi Willow,

A motorcycle is generally a little higher up than the average car, (Some SUV's excepted), so you get a very good view of what drivers are doing, and of course, since I can pass slow moving vehicles in traffic, I get to see many more drivers bad habits than the average car driver who is stuck in line with everyone else. I don't think I could use a car for travel these days, it would be far too frustrating.

Hi Mneylon,

No problem, bike gear is very good these days. With a waterproof Cordura jacket (it has a nice warm lining for the winter that can be removed when the weather is warmer), leggings, handlebar mitts and heated grips, I am well insulated on even the coldest and wettest of days. Read the story about Tales of ice and Motorcycles (link somewhere above), to see how much worse it was in the bad old days though :-(

Before I began to take photography seriously I was under the impression that if I took a shot of a beautiful landscape it would result in a beautiful photograph. I was wrong! I have realised that the camera cannot accurately represent the scene that our eyes can experience therefore we have to work on making the most of the scene before us if it is going to translate into a good photograph. This is the difference between taking snapshots and making photographs. This post sets out some tips for improving the composition of our photographs.

I have often come home from a beautiful place looking forward to seeing the amazing photos I took during the day only to find that they weren’t so amazing after all. Even when I thought I had considered everything – the best light, the composition, the right subject – often, most of the photos were still ‘not quite right’. Recently I have been trying not to just ‘snap and go’ but to stay around and explore the scene to see if that can make a difference.

Are smartphones destroying photography?
It is said that although we are taking more photographs than ever before (it is reckoned that 1 trillion photos are taken every year!), no-one is really looking at them. So could it be true that smartphones are actually destroying real photography?

There are so many bloggers out there yet so few using this platform to inform others of what they're doing. I think its a shame that more people don't make use of this opportunity for a bit of extra exposure.

My latest blog

With the summer now in full swing, and the possibility of more travel opportunities, therefore more photography opportunities, I decided to put my smartphone camera through its paces to see if it could act as a good alternative to my dedicated camera. This blog presents some of my findings.

Hi Willow,

I agree wholeheartedly. The few seconds it takes to flag the post here, is time well spent. Great post BTW. My Mum was from Sligo, so I have many happy memories of Strand Hill. :)
